Eligibility Criteria

• Both applicant and nominating university must meet requirements for the scholarship application.
• International students, Canadian citizens, and permanent residents can apply for this opportunity.
• Candidates must have the intention of pursuing a doctorate full-time throughout the academic year or summer.
• Candidates enrolled in dual professional degree programmes such as MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, or JD/PhD are eligible.
• Funding is provided only for the PhD program, not for joint degree components.
• The doctoral program’s full-time study duration must not exceed 20 months by May 1, 2024.
• Candidates should be pursuing their first-time PhD studies as full-time students at Canadian institutions.
• Nominations are limited to one institute/university under the Vainer CGS universities quota.
• Students in a joint graduate research program without a master’s degree must not exceed 32 months.
• No other awards, scholarships, or funding for the PhD program should be received by applicants.
• A first-class average in the last two years of full-time study must be achieved by applicants.
• A strong research history or component in the research proposal is required.

Required Documents

1. ResearchNet application form is required for submission.
2. Institution transcripts are mandatory for consideration.
3. Personal Leadership Statement must not exceed two pages (English) or 2.5 pages (French).
4. Two Leadership reference letters, each within two pages.
5. Canadian common CV (CCV/Resume) is needed.
6. Nomination letter should not exceed two pages.
7. Research proposal should not exceed two pages (English) or 2.5 pages (French).
8. Project references must not exceed five pages.
9. Two referee assessments are necessary.
10. Research contributions limited to one page.
11. Proof of special circumstances can be provided (optional, one page max).
12. Other optional application material (part-time status or MD/PhD program timeline) should not exceed one page.
